Spirit of YHVH
We will continue on from last week with the breath concept. There are many functions of the Holy Spirit, therefore it would be impossible to limit how the Spirit operates as the Spirit of YHVH is multi-faceted and necessary for our lives to grow in the kingdom. Today we will once again look at some very well-known verses to most of us, but we will move in a little different direction with them. I would ask that we not allow the familiarity of these verses to diminish the fresh insights we can receive from them.
Many of us are familiar with the Hebrew word Shuv for repent. This word means to turn as in turn back to Torah, the commandments of YHVH. You may also be familiar with the Hebrew word T’Shuvah which simply means To Return as in to return to the truth. However, there is another word for repent that we may not be as familiar with. It is the Hebrew word nacham and it means to draw breath, to grieve, or to lament; this is the same word that is used for comfort.
We can see through these Hebrew words that the Spirit of YHVH, both convicts and comforts us through our repentance.
Here is our familiar verse…2 Timothy 3:16-17 and it says, 16 “All Scripture is inspired by Elohim and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 So that the man of Elohim may be adequate, equipped for every good work. This word inspired in verse 16 is the Greek word theopneustos, Strong’s #2315. It means “Divinely Breathed”. So in reality this Scripture is saying that All Scripture is “Divinely Breathed” by Elohim. Therefore, we must inhale this Word and as we do we are breathing in His very breath or Spirit…that very breath that He breathed into man in the beginning where we became a living soul.
Isaiah 61:1-3; another very familiar passage that Yeshua quoted from when He was called up in Luke 4:16-19 concerning Himself says, “1 “The Spirit (Ruach #7307 ~ Breath) of Adonai Elohim is upon me; because YHVH has anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty [Freedom] to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of YHVH, and the day of vengeance of our Elohim; to comfort (Nacham #5162 ~ breath ~ as in inhale) all that mourn; 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit (Ruach #7307 ~ Breath) of heaviness (Kay-heh #3544 ~ Darkness or Dark times); that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of YHVH, that He might be glorified.”
The reality is that it is…:
- That same Spirit or breath in Luke 4:16-19 that anointed Yeshua to preach
- That same Spirit or breath in Genesis 1:2 that hovered over this earth that was formless and void and put it into order
- That same breath in Genesis 2:7 that was breathed into Adam and made Him a living soul
- That same wind or breath in Genesis 8:1 that caused the waters to recede when Noah and his family were on the ark.
- That same spirit or breath in Luke 1:35 that hovered over the virgin Mary and she conceived the Messiah
- That same breath spoken of in 2 Timothy 3:16 that breathed His Word into existence for our teaching, reproof, instruction, and training
- That same breath that convicts and comforts us today.
Whether we need conviction or comfort or some of both, may we inhale the Spirit of YHVH and allow His breath to bring it about!!
Have a blessed and shalom filled day!!
