Spirit of YHVH

The Spirit of YHVH desires to dwell in us and among us.  We will see in the verses below what hinders or allows that.

Isaiah 63:7-14 says,

  I shall make mention of the lovingkindnesses of YHVH, the praises of YHVH, according to all that YHVH has granted us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which He has granted them according to His compassion and according to the abundance of His

    lovingkindnesses.

8  For He said, “Surely, they are My people, sons who will not deal falsely.” So He became their Savior.

9  In all their affliction He was afflicted, and the angel of His presence saved them; in His love and in His mercy He redeemed them, and He lifted them and carried them all the days of old.

10 But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; therefore He turned Himself to become their enemy, He fought against them.

11 Then His people remembered the days of old, of Moses. Where is He who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of His flock? Where is He who put His Holy Spirit in the midst of them,

12 Who caused His glorious arm to go at the right hand of Moses, who divided the waters before them to make for Himself an everlasting name,

13 Who led them through the depths? Like the horse in the wilderness, they did not stumble;

14 As the cattle which go down into the valley, the Spirit of YHVH gave them rest. So You led Your people, to make for Yourself a glorious name.”

Ephesians 4:17-32 is a wonderful list that Paul gives for the conduct of believers.  As we read the following verses, may we look inward and allow the Holy Spirit to help us measure ourselves against these verses in order to do a course correction in areas we may be failing.

17  So this I say, and affirm together with the Master, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind,

18  being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of Elohim because of the ignorance that is in thembecause of the hardness of their heart;

19  and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness.

20  But you did not learn Messiah in this way,

21  if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Yeshua,

22  that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit,

23  and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

24  and put on the new self, which in the likeness of Elohim has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

25  Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth each one of you with his neighbor, for we are members of one another[Me became We]

26  BE angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,

27  and do not give the devil an opportunity.

28  He who steals must steal no longer; but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with one who has need[We work so that others may have]

29  Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.

30  Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of Elohim, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. [The Spirit of YHVH seals us for redemption, but if we continually grieve the Holy Spirit this can be jeopardized].

31  Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.

32  Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as Elohim in Messiah also has forgiven you.”

We’ve heard most of our lives as believers that we are not to grieve the Holy Spirit.  What exactly does that mean?  For me, coming from a Pentecostal background, it was mostly in the context of not obeying the prompting of the Holy Spirit when moved upon in service or otherwise. While that can be “A” truth, we must allow the Torah, which is the foundation for all true and biblical doctrines, to give us the meaning of it.  With that as our guideline, then according to Isaiah, rebellion grieved the Holy Spirit and that rebellion turned YHVH against them.  Rebellion to what?  Rebellion has always been disobedience to the Word or Commandments given by YHVH. It’s the standard and plumb line. We will be judged and rewarded according to the Word.  Yeshua will return with a sword in His mouth; this sword is the Word of YHVH.  May we purpose in our hearts today to yield to the Holy Spirit through our obedience and not grieve the Holy Spirit with disobedience.

Have a blessed and shalom filled day!!
