Saying number 28 is from Proverbs 24:17-18.  It says, “17  Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles; 18 Or YHVH will see it and be displeased, and turn His anger away from him.”

Proverbs 17:5 says, “He who mocks the poor taunts his Maker; he who rejoices at calamity will not go unpunished.” When we laugh at someone when they are struggling, YHVH sees it and will not allow it to go unpunished.  We are bringing unnecessary judgments to ourselves when we behave like this.

In Job 31:29-30, Job asserts his integrity, “29 “Have I rejoiced at the extinction of my enemy, or exulted when evil befell him?” 30 “No, I have not allowed my mouth to sin by asking for his life in a curse.””

Obadiah verses 12, 13 says, “12 “Do not gloat over your brother’s day, the day of his misfortune. And do not rejoice over the sons of Judah in the day of their destruction; Yes, do not boast in the day of their distress. 13 “Do not enter the gate of My people in the day of their disaster. Yes, you, do not gloat over their calamity in the day of their disaster. And do not loot their wealth in the day of their disaster.”

Psalm 35 is one we talked about previously where the founding fathers of the United States of America received this chapter as a rhema word from YHVH.  David wrote these words when the enemy was pursuing him. Verses15-28 says, “15 But at my stumbling they rejoiced and gathered themselves together; the smiters whom I did not know gathered together against me, they slandered me without ceasing. 16 Like godless jesters at a feast, they gnashed at me with their teeth. 17 YHVH, how long will You look on? [Ties into Proverbs 24:18 above.] Rescue my soul from their ravages, my only life from the lions. 18  I will give You thanks in the great congregation; I will praise You among a mighty throng. 19 Do not let those who are wrongfully my enemies rejoice over me; nor let those who hate me without cause wink maliciously. 20 For they do not speak peace, but they devise deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land. 21 They opened their mouth wide against me; They said, “Aha, aha, our eyes have seen it!” 22 You have seen it, O YHVH, do not keep silent; O YHVH, do not be far from me. 23 Stir up Yourself, and awake to my right and to my cause, my Elohim and my Master. 24 Judge me, O YHVH my Elohim, according to Your righteousness, and do not let them rejoice over me. 25 Do not let them say in their heart, “Aha, our desire!” Do not let them say, “We have swallowed him up!” 26 Let those be ashamed and humiliated altogether who rejoice at my distress; let those be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves over me. 27 Let them shout for joy and rejoice, who favor my vindication; and let them say continually, “YHVH be magnified, who delights in the prosperity of His servant. 28 And my tongue shall declare Your righteousness and Your praise all day long.”

May the Spirit of Wisdom prevent us from laughing or gloating when someone is struggling OR when justice prevails.  That is our heavenly Father’s business and that is why we are given wisdom  in Scripture to not broach into that territory.  To recognize justice OR when given the responsibility to render justice, does not mean one is rejoicing in that person’s sins or the consequences given because of sin.  The Spirit of Wisdom, when yielded to, will show us the difference.
