Fear of YHVH
Shabbat Shalom!! We look forward to worshipping with the Treasured Ones today!!
Today we will continue looking at what the rewards and promises are for those who Fear YHVH. David spoke much about the Fear of YHVH in his writings.
Psalm 61:1-4 says, “1 Hear my cry, O Elohim; give heed to my prayer. 2 From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 3 For You have been a refuge for me, a tower of strength [Power] against the enemy. 4 Let me dwell in Your tent forever; let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings. Selah.” The IVP says the image of eagles’ wings is a common metaphor for Elohim’s covenantal saving acts (see Ex 19:4). This reference may also be a reflection of the wings of the cherubim on the ark of the covenant (1 Sam 4:4; 1 Kings 6:23–28) or the winged seraphs said to surround Yahweh in Isaiah’s call narrative (Is 6:2). The metaphor of taking refuge under the wings of deity is found also in other psalms (36:7; 61:4; 91:4) and is consistently related to issues of care and protection connected to the covenant.
Psalm 61:5-8 says, “5 For You have heard my vows, O Elohim; You have given me the inheritance of those who fear Your name. 6 You will prolong the king’s life; His years will be as many generations. 7 He will abide before Elohim forever; appoint lovingkindness and truth that they may preserve him. 8 So I will sing praise to Your name forever, that I may pay my vows day by day.”
Psalm 21:2-4 is related to the inheritance spoken of in Psalm 61:5 for those who Fear His Name, “2 You have given him his heart’s desire, and You have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah. 3 For You meet him with the blessings of good things; You set a crown of fine gold on his head. 4 He asked life of You, You gave it to him, Length of days forever and ever.
There is a promise for a heritage and inheritance for those who have the Fear of YHVH.
May we have a joyful Shabbat!!
