Solomon wrote in Proverbs 4:7a  says, “7. Wisdom is supreme; therefore acquire wisdom.” We can desire wisdom, but if we don’t acquire wisdom we have not benefitted from this Spirit of Elohim. It takes a conscience decision to pursue and walk in it for this fire to be lit in our lives.

 Let’s look at some verses Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 7:25-29 and allow them to be profitable for teaching and training us in all righteousness.

“25. I directed my mind to know, to investigate and to seek wisdom and an explanation, and to know the evil of folly and the foolishness of madness. Folly is foolishness or stupidity and madness at the root of the meaning is boasting, shining bright, public rejoicing. The imagery given here is one being driven by foolishness and stupidity to make oneself appear to be shining bright.  Solomon is acknowledging that one must know that this is evil.  We do not have to go through all of the bad choices that Solomon made to learn this truth. We can learn from his mistakes and not make the same ones. He goes on to say…

 26. And I discoveredmore bitter than deaththe woman whose heart is snares and nets, whose hands are chains. One who is pleasing to Elohim will escape from her, but the sinner will be captured by her.  The Torah’s patterns are one man and one woman.  It is also a commandment not to take pagan wives (Deuteronomy 7:1-3).  Solomon broke both of these when it came to women.  What is our “woman”?  What is “that thing” that is a snare and a net that chains our hands and has captivated us from being fully committed to ALL the ways of our Creator? If we seek after wisdom from above, and desire to be pleasing to Elohim, we will recognize it and escape it.  If not, we will be in bondage to it.

27. “Behold, I have discovered this,” says the Preacher[Speaking of Solomon],“adding one thing to another to find an explanation [Continually looking at thing after thing in all of the wrong places],

28. which I am still seeking but have not found. I have found one man among a thousand, but I have not found a woman among all these. Solomon is referring to finding himself as one man among 700 wives and 300 concubines. There is NOT ONE among this thousand to satisfy that which I am really looking for; that which I am really longing for in my heart.  It has proven to be empty and futile!! When we search for satisfaction for anything outside of the plan and purpose the Father has for our lives it will come up empty every time.

 29. “Behold, I have found only this, that Elohim made men upright, but they have sought out many devices.”Solomon is referring back to the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve were made perfect, upright, yet they were not satisfied with havingALL the trees they may freely eat; they wanted the ONE tree they were forbidden to eat…the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. This was Adam and Eve’s device that they sought out.  They wanted to BE like Elohim, knowing good and evil.  I find the term devices used in the NASB version very interesting given the amount of “devices” that we have at our fingertips today. 

May we learn from Solomon what not to do as well as what he learned to do after MUCH failure!!  Let’s direct our minds to know, to investigate and to seek wisdom!!
