11th May 2024: Our Daily deLIGHT~7th Day-Fear of YHVH
Fear of YHVH
Shabbat Shalom!!
On the fifth day of this week I used the verse Nehemiah 1:10. Today I want to go into verse eleven. This verse closes out the prayer Nehemiah began praying in verse four. “11. O YHVH, I beseech You, may Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant and the prayer of Your servants who delight to revere Your name, and make Your servant successful today and grant him compassion before this man.”
As we’ve shared before, the word revere is one of the definitions for fear in context with the Fear of YHVH. Nehemiah is reminding the Father that he delights to revere His name and in turn equates the one who does this to success and compassion as he prepares to go before the king. The Fear of YHVH is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge and this is what Nehemiah would need as he goes before the king.
In the ancient near east if one went before a king uninvited or one did not find favor with the king, that person could be cast away from his presence forever or even experience death. Therefore, Nehemiah had valid reasons to be concerned and pray before he went in the presence of the King. Having a proper reverence and respect for our Creator truly turns things around. Proverbs 14:27 says; “The fear of YHVH is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death.”
The fruit of the Fear of YHVH is our willingness to yield our rights of what we want to do and obey with joy what He’s commanded us to do!!!
May we have a joyful Shabbat!!
