6th October 2024: Our Daily deLIGHT~1st Day-Wisdom
Wisdom
Saying number 7 is from Proverbs 23:1-3. It says, “1 When you sit down to dine with a ruler, consider carefully what is before you,[In the Hebrew the last phrase actually says, “Who is before you” rather than just what is before you; that shows forth the ancient near east understanding that a table is considered an altar and it matters who we eat with as well as what we eat.] 2 And put a knife to your throat if you are a man of great appetite. 3 Do not desire his delicacies, for it is deceptive food.” Daniel is a prime example of one who did not yield to the King’s delicacies and he was made stronger as a result. There is much to be said about doing the right thing and having self-control.
A prayer of David in Psalm 141:4 says, “Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, to practice deeds of wickedness with men who do iniquity; and do not let me eat of their delicacies.” David is praying that he does not participate in their evil practices that is lured in through deceptive means. Appearing to be delicacies when it’s really a snare.
Isaiah 32:6a says, “For a fool speaks nonsense, and his heart inclines toward wickedness: to practice ungodliness and to speak error against YHVH…” However, verse 8 goes on to say, “But the noble man devises noble plans; and by noble plans he stands.” The last phrase of this verse, by noble plans he stands means that he is established.
May we receive the Spirit of Wisdom. May we be intent on having self-control in all areas of our lives so that we are mindful of who we keep company and not be led astray. May we guard our hearts with all diligence in order that we are found to be wise and noble in all of our planning.
Have a blessed and shalom filled day!!
