Wisdom
We have been brought to another 1st day to focus on wisdom.
An interesting side note about the author of the verses below. Who is this man named James? Our English Bibles began using the name James in the 14th century; however, his real name was Ya’akov…which should be translated in English as Jacob. He was the half brother of Yeshua. Who is better to share these insights than the one who shared his whole life with pure wisdom Himself? If you’re interested in how Jacob became James, I’ve placed a link to a short read on how and when the name of this book was changed. SEE HERE
James 3:13-18 says, “13 Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy. 18 And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.”
These verses leave me reeling on one hand at how clear and contrasting they are to what is wisdom from above and what is not; and excited on the other hand as he did not leave us in the dark as to what true wisdom is to the follower of Yeshua.
- Pure
- Peaceable
- Gentle
- Reasonable
- Full of Mercy and Good Fruits
- Unwavering
- Without Hypocrisy
Before we respond or answer a matter, we would do well to do a quick rundown in our hearts and minds through this list to make sure we’re answering in true wisdom by the Holy Spirit and not from our own earthly carnal thoughts. May we deLIGHT in today’s Spirit of Wisdom and be a light to all we come in contact with.
Have a blessed and shalom filled day!!
