Proverbs 10:14 says, “Wise men store up knowledge, but with the mouth of the foolish, ruin is at hand.” In the ancient near east they would “Lay up or Store up” treasure for safe keeping so that when they needed the treasure, it would be readily available.  Biblical knowledge is a treasure and needs to be stored up for future use.  From it flows all the issues of life.  When we understand the patterns that lie within the pages of true knowledge, we are then equipped to understand what is brought into our path.  When the Wright brothers, who invented the first air plane, wanted to know how to make this happen, they studied the birds. YHVH’s creation gave them the knowledge they needed to design an air craft.  When we understand the principles that lie within the Scriptures it translates into everything we will encounter.  But in order for us to have this resource to draw on, we must read and study it every day and store it in our hearts.  The Holy Spirit will then bring it back to our remembrance so that we can use it.

Proverbs 9:9 says, “Give instruction [Counsel] to a wise man and he will be still wiser, teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning. [Knowledge]” A wise man will know how to apply the knowledge he’s been given in order to use it and not abuse it.

Proverbs 1:5 says, “A wise man will hear and increase in learning [Knowledge], and a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel…” Again, we are to acquire or store up wise counsel and knowledge for the purpose of the kingdom, not for fruitless discussions that cause division (1 Timothy 1:6).

May we be diligent to store up Biblical Knowledge as we would store up gold or silver to be used in the day of need.  When we do, we will be able to wisely discern how to measure other knowledge against the patterns of the Word.
