Drinking and the Spirit is a repeatable theme in Scripture. We all know how vital a drink of water can be when we are thirsty in the natural; the same is true when it flows over into the spiritual realm.  There are many truths to be learned from this normal occurrence.

Let’s take a look at what happens in John 4:7-10 says, “7 There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Yeshua said to her, “Give Me a drink.” 8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. 9 Therefore the Samaritan woman said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) 10 Yeshua answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of Elohim, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

In John 7:37-39 it says, “37 Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Yeshua stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. 38“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” 39 But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Yeshua was not yet glorified.

Yeshua is equating the infilling of the Spirit of YHVH to being filled with LIVING WATER to the point of rivers flowing forth from our innermost being.  With overflowing water/Spirit we are able to share with others.  Just as the center shaft representing the Spirit of YHVH on the menorah fills the other branches; we too, can fill others with the living water.

May we drink in the Spirit of YHVH so that we will not be a dried up branch unable to quench or fill our thirsty souls or the souls of others; let’s purpose to be a life source of drink to those who thirst!!
