Fear of YHVH

Shabbat Shalom Treasured Ones!!

On the fifth day of this week, we talked about FAITH and I want to continue in this vein. The covenant to restore us back to YHVH is the covenant that was made with Abram whose name would be changed to Abraham.

This covenant can be found in Genesis 17:1-8; “1 Now when Abram was ninety-nine years old, YHVH appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Elohim Almighty; Walk before Me, and be blameless.  2 “I will establish My covenant between Me and you, and I will multiply you exceedingly.” 3 Abram fell on his face, and Elohim talked with him, saying, 4 “As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you will be the father of a multitude of nations. 5 “No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations. 6 “I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings will come forth from you. 7 “I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be Elohim to you and to your descendants after you. 8 “I will give to you and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their Elohim.”

Abraham was chosen, however, this covenant is made AFTER he obeyed the voice of YHVH in Genesis 12:1-4 to leave his father and his relatives to go to a land that “I will show you.” The Father chose Abraham because He knew he would command his children and his household after him (Genesis 18:19). Abraham believed [had FAITH in] YHVH and it was reckoned to him as righteousness (Genesis 15:6). This is where it begins.  Galatians 3:16 says, “Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as referring to many, but rather to one, “And to your seed,” that is, Messiah.” So when we receive by FAITH Yeshua as Messiah we are now the seed of Abraham.

As the chosen father of our FAITH, Abraham had to go through many testings…ten is the number most come up with.  The greatest test of all was the “Binding of Isaac”.  Please read this account in Genesis 22.  Abraham obeyed the voice of YHVH to offer up his son as a burnt offering.  Just before it was complete, the Father stopped him and provided for Himself an offering.  The ram caught in the thicket by his horns was offered up in the place of his son Isaac.  As an aside: This would be symbolic of Yeshua with a crown of thorns on His head as He is being led to His crucifixion.  What’s interesting is what the angel said to Abraham AFTER he passed this test.  Genesis 22:12 says, “Do not lay a hand on the boy or do anything to him,” said the Angel, “for now I know that you fear YHVH, since you have not withheld your only son from Me.”

The reverence, honor and Fear of YHVH is demonstrated when we obey and are willing to lay down the most precious thing to us.  The story of the binding of Isaac is a prophetic portent of the work of Yeshua that would come.  We just recently completed the Pesach season when Yeshua laid down His life for our sin. May we, in turn, be willing to lay down our “Isaacs” and obey His commandments, so that our heavenly Father can say to us, “Now, I know that you Fear YHVH!!”

May we have a joyful Shabbat!!
