Understanding

Once again we’re going back into Daniel 8 where we left off last 2nd day. By way of reminder, Daniel served under four kings during this seventy year stretch: Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, Darius the Mede and Cyrus the Persian.  As we mentioned last week, Daniel sought the Father to understand what was being revealed to him; today we will look at the posture Daniel was in as the understanding was being given to him by Gabriel the angel.

Daniel 8:18 says; “Now while he [Gabriel the angel] was talking with me, I sank into a deep sleep with my face to the ground; but he [Gabriel] touched me and made me stand upright.” This happened to Daniel in the third year of the reign of Belshazzar the king.

Daniel 10:1 says, In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a message was revealed to Daniel, who was named Belteshazzar; and the message was true and one of great conflict, but he understood the message and had an understanding of the vision.”  I highlighted the fact that both times this happens it is in the third year of the reigning king.  Coincidence?  No, a Yah-incidence!! Truly our Father works in patterns so that we will make the connections and know without a doubt that He is leading our lives. Let’s keep moving through chapter ten.

Daniel 10:7-14 says, 7 Now I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, while the men who were with me did not see the vision; nevertheless, a great dread fell on them, and they ran away to hide themselves. 8 So I was left alone and saw this great vision; yet no strength [Powerwas left in me, for my natural color turned to a deathly pallor, and I retained no strength [Power]9 But I heard the sound of his words; and as soon as I heard the sound of his words, I fell into a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground10 Then behold, a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. 11 He said to me, “O Daniel, man of high esteemunderstand the words that I am about to tell you and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up trembling12 Then he said to me, “Do not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart on understanding this and on humbling yourself before your Elohimyour words were heard, and I have come in response to your words13 “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was withstanding me for twenty-one days; then behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia. 14 “Now I have come to give you an understanding of what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision pertains to the days yet future.”

Let’s list some of the patterns and postures from these verses that pertained to Daniel as he was seeking and given understanding for the future:

  1. He fell into a deep sleep
  2. Face to the ground [this is a position of humility, honor and receiving]
  3. Told to stand up
  4. Stood up trembling
  5. Man of high esteem
  6. Set his heart to understand
  7. Humbled himself before YHVH

A definite pattern for us to draw on as we are in very similar days as Daniel.  We are in exile awaiting the final gathering together and we need much understanding if we’re going to accurately discern what we’re encountering. As we fall to the ground on our faces in humility before our Father, He tells us to stand upright.  I believe this is a significant posture because as the understanding comes it puts us ready to go in forward motion.

Psalm 94:16 says, 16 Who will stand up for me against evildoers? Who will take his stand for me against those who do wickedness? Will we be a people that says, “Yes!! We will stand up and raise a standard of righteousness while standing up against wickedness.”?  May we have hearts to understand what the Spirit is currently saying and stand up!!

Shalom & Blessings,

Tammy
