Understanding

In one of our recent Haftorah portions we read from 2 Kings 4:42-44.  It says, “42 Now a man came from Baal-shalishah, and brought the man of Elohim bread of the first fruits, twenty loaves of barley [Passover harvest] and fresh ears of grain in his sack. And he said, “Give them to the people that they may eat.” 43 His attendant said, “What, will I set this before a hundred men?” But he said, “Give them to the people that they may eat, for thus says YHVH, ‘They shall eat and have some left over.’” 44 So he set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of YHVH.”  Other Biblical accounts of this type of occurrence immediately came to mind as we were reading through this portion.  There are the stories where Yeshua fed the 5000 in Matthew 14:13-21 and another time where He fed the 4000 in Matthew 15:29-39.  In both accounts there were leftoversmore than enough to feed the multitude.  Please take the time to read these two accounts and see the connection to 2 Kings 4.

In these narratives, Yeshua’s disciples doubted these miracles could happen because they didn’t understandit didn’t seem practical or even possible.  However, Proverbs 3:5-7 says, “5 Trust in YHVH with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He [Not ourselves] will make your paths straight. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyesFear YHVH and turn away from evil.”

In each case the disciples questioned how this is going to be possible.  They did not bring back to mind what the Father did before with their forefathers.  Had they stopped and considered with eyes of Biblical knowledge and understanding they would have had the faith they needed, without questioning, when Yeshua gave them the orders.  They could have encouraged one another that this IS possible!! This is a pattern for us to learn “what to do” when faced with beyond our control circumstances.

What is our “5000 needing to be fed” situation?  Is there anything too difficult for Him?  No!!  If it happened in the days of the kings and then again in Yeshua’s days, is it any less possible for our impossible situation to be met when we understand the ways of the Master?
