Wisdom

We are continuing in the “Thirty Sayings of the Wise” from the book of Proverbs.  Though the word wisdom may not be used, when it is from the Word it is our wisdom.

Saying number 27 is from Proverbs 24:15-16.  It says, “15  Do not lie in wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; do not destroy his resting place; 16 For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again, but the wicked stumble in time of calamity.” We’ve quoted verse 16 many times in context with one who keeps falling into sin, though principally we know we are forgiven completely when we repent and turn away from the sin we’ve committed (1 John 1:9), but in context with verse 15 and the rest of 16, this verse is talking about one who falls into affliction or adversity or persecution.  He will rise back up through the ability of our heavenly Father and keep moving forward and not quit.  This doesn’t take anything away from us to understand what this verse really means.  It actually broadens our faith and encourages us that the righteous will not be defeated in these times of calamity.

Psalm 37:23-26 says, “23 The steps of a man are established by YHVH, and He [YHVH] delights in his [the person’s] way. 24 When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, because YHVH is the One who holds his hand. 25 I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his descendants begging bread. 26 All day long he [the righteous] is gracious and lends, and his descendants [the righteous person’s descendants] are a blessing[The gift keeps on giving]

Micah 7:7-8 says, “7 But as for me, I will watch expectantly for YHVHI will wait for the Elohim of my salvationMy Elohim will hear me. 8  Do not rejoice over me, O my enemy. Though I fall I will risethough I dwell in darkness, YHVH is a light for me.

The Spirit of Wisdom in these verses is clear that the righteous person will:

  1. Rise again
  2. Have our enemies taken care of by our Creator, YHVH
  3. Have our steps established by YHVH
  4. Have YHVH delight in our ways
  5. Have YHVH hold our hand when we fall
  6. Not be forsaken nor our descendants begging for food
  7. Be able to give and lend
  8. Be a blessing
  9. Be heard when we pray
  10. Have YHVH as a light in the time of darkness

We need these promises and tenacity in the day that we live in order to endure and overcome till the end. As we receive the Spirit of Wisdom through the Scriptures we will also walk in the promises of them.

Have a blessed and shalom filled day!!
