Wisdom
Psalm 90:10-12; “10 As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years, or if due to strength, eighty years, yet their pride is but labor and sorrow; for soon it [days of our life/time] is gone and we fly away. 11 Who understands the power of Your anger and Your fury, according to the fear that is due You [Fear/Reverence of YHVH}? 12 So teach us to number our days, that we may present to You a heart of wisdom.” This particular Psalm is a Prayer of Moses. His prayer to the Father expresses that he understands the fragility of life and that we need to make each day count. Just like in counting the Omer, the equivalent expression for counting days and weeks up to Shavuot, the Feast of Weeks, each day we live is counting up to where we will spend eternity. That is a surreal thought!! A wise heart that fears YHVH will consider how he lives each day in honor of the Creator and will make it count.
Colossians 4:5; “Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.” In other words, don’t waste the opportunity we may have to be a witness to them. It could be our only chance with that person.
Ephesians 5:15-17; “15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of YHVH is.” These verses encourage us to step back and take a look at our lives and ask ourselves, “What am I doing with my time? Am I wasting it or making it count?” The time we spend teaching and training our children is setting them up to make wise uses of their time and choices. In like manner, the way we conduct ourselves around others will also influence them and be a witness. It truly is more caught than taught. May we pray to accurately discern if we’re using our time to further the kingdom.
James 4:13-15 says, “13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.” 14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If YHVH wills, we will live and also do this or that.” A life that has yielded it’s time to the giver of time will have the wisdom to not to presume on what tomorrow holds. We are to occupy till He comes and make plans, but with a loose hand that Abba can redirect our plans at any minute. He is sovereign and in control. This is why James, Yeshua’s brother, is telling us that we should say, “YHVH willing we will do…!” These very words demonstrate, each time their said, that we know that our time is not our own, but belongs to our Creator. Also, these verses, like our first verses, once again show us the delicateness of life.
May we spend time this week considering how we use our time and may the Spirit of Wisdom reveal to us how we can improve our time expenditure!!!
Have a blessed and shalom filled day!!
