Knowledge

As we mentioned last week for the Spirit of Understanding, in John 13 Yeshua has had His last supper with His disciples and demonstrated through Footwashing the powerful truths of Servanthood and Stewardship.  As we journey through the book of John, Yeshua is teaching His final words this side of the crucifixion.  What He tells His disciples will be of utmost importance for them to remember, it is for us as well.  In John 14, as Yeshua continues His discourse, He gives His disciples the knowledge they will need so that they will be comforted in the coming days when they will need it. As an aside from our topic: We can see a pattern here that the Spirit gives us what we need when we need it.

John 14:1-7; “1 “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in Elohim, believe also in Me. 2 “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you [let you know]; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. 4 “And you know the way where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to Him, “Master, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” 6 Yeshua said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. 7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.”.

It continues on in verses 8-11…by way of reminder let’s visualize the reality of when this is being taught.  It’s the last time He has to teach His disciples before He becomes the Passover Sacrifice; “8 Philip said to Him, “Master, show us the Father, and it is enough [Dayenu means it would have been enough…this is a song sung during Passover] for us.” 9 Yeshua said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 “Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. 11 “Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves.” The greatest purpose that we have for the Spirit of Knowledge to operate in our lives is so that we can KNOW the Messiah as our Redeemer and in turn our heavenly Father on an intimate level

Continuing through this powerful chapter let’s hang onto every word Yeshua is speaking.  We’ll pick up in verses 15-21 and will reread a couple of verses we read on the fourth day of this week; “15 If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. 16 “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; 17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receivebecause it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. 18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 “After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also. 20 “In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and in you. 21 “He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him [make Myself known to him].” Keeping the commandments of YHVH is synonymous with loving Him and knowing Him and being known by Him!!!

Judas (not Iscariot) asks a question in verse 22 and Yeshua answers it in verse 23-24; “22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Master, what then has happened that You are going to disclose Yourself to us [make Himself knownand not to the world?” 23 Yeshua answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him [hello “dwelling places” from verse 2].  24 “He who does not love Me does not keep My wordsand the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.” Another confirmation that loving Him, knowing Him, being known by Him and keeping His commandments go hand in hand.

Let’s close out our journey through John 14 with the words of Yeshua in verses 30-31 with these words, “30 I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me; 31 but so that the world may know that I love the FatherI do exactly as the Father commanded Me. Get up, let us go from here.” While we know that when Yeshua said, “Get up, let us go from here” that they were literally moving locations, however, is it too farfetched to believe that before we can move forward we must first know that we are in Messiah and the Father and they are in us and that we, too, should follow Yeshua’s example and do exactly as our Father has commanded us?

Get up, let us go from here!!!

Have a blessed and shalom filled day!!!
