Counsel

What the prophets said in their day is for us in our day.  Therefore it is paramount that we study the whole of Scripture so we can learn what not to do as much as what to do.  As we often say, “It is, it was and it is to come!!”  It still speaks.  However, if we’re not reading the Word with the intent for it to counsel and instruct us then we will not receive the promises that come with it.  But, if we do, everything promised will come to pass for us personally and congregationally.

Jeremiah 7:21-26 says; “21 Thus says YHVH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, “Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices and eat flesh. 22 “For I did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings and sacrifices. 23 “But this is what I commanded them [Counseled], saying, ‘Obey My voice [My Counsel], and I will be your Elohim, and you will be My people; and you will walk in all the way which I command you [Counsel you]that it may be well with you.’ 24 “Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward. 25 “Since the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have sent you all My servants the prophets, daily rising early and sending them. 26 “Yet they did not listen to Me [My Counselor incline their ear [two ways of saying the same thing], but stiffened their neck; they did more evil than their fathers.”

Let’s look at the original command that YHVH gave to our forefathers to validate what is being said in Jeremiah.  Exodus 15:25b – 26; 25b“There YHVH made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there He tested them, 26 saying, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of YHVH your Elohim [My Counsel], and do what is right in His eyes, and pay attention to His commands [His Counsel], and keep all His statutes, then I will not bring on you any of the diseases I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am YHVH who heals you.”

The sacrifices were given to draw us near because after the exodus, the sin of the golden calf had separated us from His presence; but from the beginning it has been the heart and desire of YHVH that we obey His counsel with our whole hearts, mind and strength. That is what pleases Him and brings the promises.  If we’re lacking in the promises let’s examine if we’re pleasing Him!!

Have a blessed and shalom filled day!!
