Counsel
We often read in Scripture, “He who has an ear to hear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying.” This is an idiomatic expression encouraging us to listen to or heed counsel, or in other words, obey what the Word is saying. This counsel comes in different forms that at times we may not enjoy at the moment, but if we will receive it now, we will reap the rewards in the days to come.
Ecclesiastes 7:5 says; “It is better to listen to the rebuke of a wise man [Heed Counsel] than for one to listen to the song of fools [Heed the Counsel of a fool].” Most enjoy a good song and few enjoy a rebuke; but who is the source of the counsel? A wise man or a fool? One leads to life, the other to folly and ruin.
Proverbs 25:11-12 says, “11 Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken [Counsel] in right circumstances. 12 Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold is a wise reprover to a listening ear. [One who heeds Counsel]” Gold and Silver represent deity, purity and redemption. Both, the one giving and the one receiving good counsel, are compared to these precious metals. It leads to purity and redemption!!
Isaiah 50:4-5 says, “4 YHVH Elohim has given Me the tongue of disciples, that I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to listen [Hear Counsel] as a disciple. 5 YHVH Elohim has opened My ear; and I was not disobedient nor did I turn back.” If you keep reading the following verses in this chapter it becomes very clear that Isaiah is speaking forward about Yeshua and His response to His Father while on this earth, which is the pattern for us. If we have an ear to hear and listen to the counsel of the Almighty, we will also be awakened each morning by the Spirit to be given our instruction or counsel for the day. This verse is a picture of the teacher waking the student every morning to teach him how he ought to live. Yeshua humbled Himself and demonstrated for us in every area of life the manner in which we are to live as disciples of The Way. He already knew it, but for our sakes He walked it out before us. If we will heed the Counsel of these words they will sustain us in the hour of need as well as in the good times.
Have a blessed and shalom filled day!!
