The book of Habakkuk, like Zephaniah, is only three chapters long, but there is a lot packed into these three chapters.  I highly recommend reading through this short prophetic book.  You will discover many parallels to what is going on in our world today.  For those who may be new to the Scriptures, this is the book that cites the well known verse that the “just, or the righteous, shall live by faith.”  

In chapter one you will read a dialogue between Habakkuk and YHVH.  Habakkuk asks some very honest and straightforward questions to the Creator and He answers him. We will now pick up in chapter 2:1 where Habakkuk is responding back to YHVH after hearing some VERY difficult things.

Habakkuk 2:1-3;

“1 I [Habakkuk] will stand on my guard post

            And station myself on the rampart;

            And I will keep watch to see what He will speak to me,

            And how I may reply when I am reproved.

 As soon as Habakkuk said the words above YHVH spoke for the rest of chapter 2 giving him the knowledge that he would need to inscribe for all the generations following him, and that includes you and I today.

 2 Then YHVH answered me and said,

            “Record the vision

            And inscribe it on tablets,

            That the one who reads it may run. [Meaning, the one who reads it may proclaim it, just as we’re to do with the words inscribed in our Bibles.]

3 “For the vision is yet for the appointed time;

            It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail.

            Though it tarries, wait for it;

            For it will certainly come, it will not delay.”   

YHVH gives many WOES in these verses and right in the middle, in verse 14 He says, “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of YHVH, as the waters cover the sea.” This is an insertion that Yah’s people will be restored and the punishment of their enemies will be manifested throughout the world.   And right after that, in verse fifteen, He picks back up with the WOES.

Isaiah 11:9-12 says the same thing;

“9 They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain,

            For the earth will be full of the knowledge of YHVH

            As the waters cover the sea.

 10 Then in that day the nations will resort to the root of Jesse, [Yeshua is the root of Jesse]

            Who will stand as a signal for the peoples;

            And His resting place will be glorious.

 11 Then it will happen on that day that Adonai

            Will again recover the second time with His hand [His outstretched arm]

            The remnant of His people, who will remain, [Be gathered]

            From Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath,

            And from the islands of the sea.

12 And He will lift up a standard for the nations

            And assemble the banished ones of Israel, [Assemble or gather]

            And will gather the dispersed of Judah [And still another promise to gather]

            From the four corners of the earth.”

Who is this knowledge of YHVH supposed to shine through? The people of Elohim!! The promise of the covenant is that Israel would be as the stars in the sky and the sand of the sea. This is a connection to these verses that say, “the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of YHVH, as the waters cover the sea.”  In the midst of the WOES of this world, may we be found proclaiming the knowledge of Yah’s Word to the lost and dying!!
