15th June 2024: Our Daily deLIGHT~7th Day-Fear of YHVH
Fear of YHVH
Shabbat Shalom!!
2 Corinthians 5:10-11 says; “10. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Messiah, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. 11. Therefore, knowing the fear of YHVH, we persuade men, but we are made manifest to Elohim; and I hope that we are made manifest also in your consciences.”
The IVP has this to say about these verses…paraphrasing: As the Corinthians know, Paul had appeared before their governor’s “ judgment seat” (Acts 18:12), but Paul’s allusion here is directly to the standard of the Scriptures about the day of judgment, in which Elohim’s throne became the ultimate judgment seat. Paul’s emphasis on judgment for deeds in the body reiterates his opposition to any remaining elements of common Greek ideas disparaging the body, which Paul had refuted in 1 Corinthians 6:12-14. Greek thinkers believed sexual immorality was ok as long as it didn’t control a person.
Paul lets them know that they will be judged for everything they do with their body. Is it any different today? We are constantly overcoming our western Greco-Roman mindset to align with the truth of Scripture. Following his statements concerning the judgment coming he says, THEREFORE. Now we need to explore what it’s “there for”. Because of the Fear of YHVH Paul warns them of the day coming.
When we have the proper Fear of YHVH it will compel us to persuade ourselves and others of what is pleasing to the Father and what is not. May we examine what we’re doing and align ourselves with the truth.
May we have a joyful Shabbat!!
