Spirit of YHVH
Peter had a rough start in his walk with the Messiah. He seemed to have a lot of zeal, but without knowledge (Romans 10:2). He even denied being a follower of the Messiah at the time of the crucifixion and vacillated on his understanding of the inclusion of the Gentiles to his former brethren; but ultimately he became a powerful teacher of the Word. In the Scriptures that we’ll read today, Peter is making it very clear that regardless of what one encounters or experiences or hears, there is something MORE SURE than this, and that is the Word of Elohim. We must always remember that our experiences or words or encounters that we receive must always line up with the Word, as it trumps everything else. It is the Spirit of YHVH that causes us to see and understand the written Word and how to apply it. Why? Because it was given and inspired by the Spirit of YHVH. It is a must that we pray for our teachers to have and yield to the Spirit of YHVH in order to impart the insights of the Word accurately; and for ourselves to have the Spirit of YHVH so that we understand what is being taught. With that in mind let’s read today’s verses.
2 Peter 1:12-21 says,
12 Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you.
13 I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder,
14 knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Adonai Yeshua Messiah has made clear to me. [Peter knows that he will die in the near future.]
15 And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departure you will be able to call these things to mind. [Last words spoken are often the first words remembered.]
They Were Eyewitnesses
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Adonai Yeshua Messiah, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. [Peter, James and John were the witnesses to this event on Mount Transfiguration (Mark 9). Remember that it takes two or three witnesses for a matter to be established and there were three there to witness this encounter.]
17 For when He [Yeshua] received honor and glory from Elohim the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased”—
18 and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
19 So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. [Peter is saying that even more sure than the experience we had and saw on the high mountain, what is known today as Mount Transfiguration, is the Scripture.]
20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation,
21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from Elohim. [We can trust the Word that we have because those writing the books of the Bible were moved by the Spirit of YHVH…the same Spirit that we have today to understand the Word.]
Isaiah 40:8 says,
The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our Elohim stands forever.
Isaiah 55:11 says,
So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.
Isaiah 59:21 [Let’s claim and speak this verse for all of our children and grandchildren]
“As for Me, this is My covenant with them,” says YHVH: “My Spirit which is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your offspring, nor from the mouth of your offspring’s offspring,” says YHVH, “from now and forever.”
As we often say, the Word is the plumb line that everything is to be measured with, but even that cannot be correctly done without the Spirit of YHVH leading us; therefore, let’s ask everyday for the Spirit to fill us and give us the insight that we need for the day.
Have a blessed and shalom filled day!!
