Understanding
Isaiah the prophet, whose name means “YHVH Saves” or “Salvation of YHVH” was sent to a disobedient people in order to make them understand the atrocity of their sins and rebellion, as well as try to turn them back to the Father and his ways. The book of Isaiah has 66 chapters, just as the Bible has 66 books. The book of Isaiah also has two main themes. Chapters 1-39 reveals Elohim’s character and judgment and chapters 40-66 reveals His comfort and redemption. Seven weeks prior to Yom Teruah/Feast of Trumpets is known as a time of consolation. Each week for seven weeks we will read a portion from the book of Isaiah that are verses of consolation following the 9th of Av/Fifth month on the Hebrew calendar. On this date the ten spies brought back an evil report from the land and both Temples, Solomon’s and Herod’s, were destroyed nearly 500 years apart on the exact same day. Many other events happened throughout history on this day as well. Following these judgments, the ones who came to understand their sins and wanted to change their ways, the Father always brought consolation and made a way to return to Him. This has not changed. It was for them and it’s for those in every generation.
Isaiah 1:1-3 says, “1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz concerning Judah and Jerusalem, which he saw during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. 2 Listen [Shema…hear with the intent to obey], O heavens, and hear, O earth; for YHVH speaks, “Sons I [YHVH] have reared and brought up, but they have revolted against Me. 3 “An ox knows its owner, and a donkey its master’s manger, but Israel does not know, My people do not understand.”
The IVP Commentary says, “In other ancient Near Eastern literature the gods would be called as witnesses to an important event. Here YHVH is issuing a formal indictment against Israel, and the nondeified cosmos is called as witness….In the covenant Elohim made with Israel heaven and earth had been called as witnesses (Deut 4:26), so it is appropriate here that they be called on to hear the indictment detailing the violation of that covenant.”
Isaiah 46:8-9 says, “8 Remember this, and be assured; recall it to mind, you transgressors. 9 “Remember the former things long past, for I am Elohim, and there is no other; I am Elohim, and there is no one like Me,”
Isaiah 43:25-26 says, “25 I [YHVH], even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, and I will not remember your sins. 26 “Put Me in remembrance, let us argue our case together; state your cause, that you may be proved right.”
Acts 3:19-26 says, “19 Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of YHVH; 20 and that He may send Yeshua, the Messiah appointed for you, 21 whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of all things about which Elohim spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time. 22 Moses said, ‘YHVH Elohim will raise up for you A prophet like me [This is Yeshua in the Torah] from your brethren; to Him you shall give heed to everything He says to you. 23 And it will be that every soul that does not heed that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ 24 And likewise, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and his successors onward, also announced these days. 25 It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which Elohim made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ 26 For you first, Elohim raised up His Servant and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways.””
May the Spirit of Understanding enlighten us that it is our sin that separates us and it is the goodness of Elohim that leads us to repentance and restoration. It is His GREAT love for His creation that He sends His prophets and His judgments in order to bring us back into His presence where He LONGS for us to dwell!! Yeshua, His Prophet and Redeemer, came, died, resurrected and ascended and will eventually restore all things for those who will accept it and stay in it. This IS the Good News of the Gospel!!
Have a blessed and shalom filled day!!
